Guide to Graduate School

Graduate schools stress research experience as a criterion for admission. Those planning to do graduate work in psychology would be well advised to do some research with a faculty member as early as possible (please refer to Supervised Research/ Readings). Choose an area of research that is likely to be relevant to your graduate work.

Take courses that may benefit your graduate work. For example, take neuroscience-related courses if you plan to do graduate work in that area. Take computer science and biology because they are useful and relevant to many areas.

Graduate programs will be impressed if you take courses perceived to be difficult (if you do well in them) and frown on those seen as easy. But we also suggest that you take what you think will give you the best education. Getting an education is more than just a means to getting into graduate school or to finding a good job.
