Motivation, Personality, and Cognitive Fatigue
Location: Sewall Hall 309
Time: 3:00 pm
Abstract:
One of the fundamental characteristics of tasks that involve cognitive
fatigue, if not the main characteristic, is that the task is not
intrinsically interesting or enjoyable to the performer. This talk
will focus on the personality and motivational characteristics
correlated with subjective judgments of cognitive fatigue. I will
review empirical results of performance and subjective fatigue in
cognitively-demanding tasks over extended time-on-task (up to 5½
hours), along with related reports of negative affect, positive affect,
task interest, and self-efficacy across task performance. I will also
address the influence of subjective reports prior to task performance
on future experiences of subjective fatigue, in the context of a trait
and process model of cognitive fatigue
